EXTRASOLAR LANDSCAPES

The concept of worlds beyond our own solar system has only really existed in popular culture for 100 years and another 200 as a scientifically plausible idea. For the vast majority of human history the universe was nothing more than 6 heavenly bodies orbiting the Earth (including the moon and the sun). Throughout the vast chasm of time that humanity has watched the sky, we have only known extra-solar planets exist for about 25 years. That’s barely a microscopic drop within our crucible of history.

Even in the short amount of time we’ve known of these worlds, we have collected a vast amount of data about them. New methods of detection and orbiting satellites like the Kepler telescope have greatly increased not only the volume but variety of the data. We can determine attributes of these worlds, such as size, density, orbit period (distance from star) composition and even traces of atmosphere.

The body of work I generated was based from scientific data collected by astronomers using state of the art technology . Many of these landscapes are based from planets discovered by the Kepler space telescope. The images themselves are a blend of CGI and real world photography.

We may not be able to travel to these places physically, but we can visit them in our dreams.
